Troop 54, Greenwood

Rod Powell, Assistant Scout Master of Greenwood's historic Boy Scout Troop 54, presented to an enthusiastic crowd at last night's SSCHS meeting. Rod shared the history of the Troop, which began in approximately 1921 as the "Black Foot Tribe" and morphed into its current configuration in 1928 under the leadership of Halton B. Stewart, Sr. Several early troop members were in attendance, including Vernon Stewart and Roy Mizell. Don Williams, who was Scout Master from 1963-1983 joined Mr. Powell and current Troop leader

Steve Long. SSCHS members Stewart Bryant, Vernon Stewart and H. B Stewart displayed Boy Scout memorabilia.

Did you know that...

...Troop 54 was the only mounted troop in the USA?

...Pat Bolin was a troop member who went on to make Boy Scout history with the founding of Camp Orr, located south of Harrison, Arkansas, the only Boy Scout Camp situated within a National Park. It is located on 600 acres of the scenic Buffalo National River Wilderness Area and has several features named for Pat Bolin.
