May 1 Opening

Spring is here and with it comes the opening of the Old Jail Museum Complex May 1. We're open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 am- 3 pm through November 1.

Please come out and join us. Sit a spell on the porch of the old log cabin and watch the world go by. Check out the hand tools and agricultural implements in the rough-hewn old barn. Relive the days of the one room schoolhouse at Redwine School. And don't forget to drop by the Old Jail to see the exhibits.

This season's featured exhibits include:

- History of Postal Services in Greenwood and South Sebastian County. See photos and read accounts of early letter carriers delivering on horseback and by horse and buggy.

- Civil War Artifacts and Memorabilia. In recognition of the approaching sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary of the Civil War, we've assembled a variety of Civil War artifacts and memorabilia belonging to Greenwood families. Of special interest are the shared personal recollections of Greenwood families.

-The Enduring Heritage of Rural Arkansas: Hearth and Home. Bring your children to see the way folks lived in the not-so-distant past. Soap-making, washing, butter-churning and food preservation are featured in exhibits on the second floor.
